What is GATE ?
The Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) in an All - India Examination conducted by the Indian Institutes of Technology and Indian Institute of Science. Admission for Post Graduate course for Engineering at various engineering institutions. Now even the PSU's are recruiting students according to GATE score.
ELIGIBILITY FOR GATE
The following categories of candidates are eligible to appear in GATE:
- Bachelor degree holders in Engineering/ Technology/ Architecture (4 years after 10+2) and those who are in the final year of such programmes.
- Master degree holders in any branch of Science/ Mathematics/ Statistics/ Computer Applications or equivalent and those who are in the final year of such programmes.
- Candidates in the second or higher year of the Four-year Integrated Master degree programme (Post-B.Sc.) in Engineering/ Technology or in the third or higher year of Five-year Integrated Master degree programme and Dual Degree programme in Engineering/ Technology.
- Candidates in the fourth or higher year of Five-year Integrated Master’s degree programme or Dual Degree programme in Engineering/Technology.
- Candidates with qualifications obtained through examinations conducted by professional societies recognized by UPSC/AICTE (e.g. AMIE by IE(I), AMICE(I) by the Institute of Civil Engineers (India)-ICE(I)) as equivalent to B.E./B.Tech. Those who have completed section A or equivalent of such professional courses are also eligible.

WHAT IS IES EXAM ?

Engineering Services (ES) are the technical services that meet the technical and managerial functions of the government of India. Government spending comprises more than 15 percent of India's GDP. Given the extent of tasks and functions managed by the public sector this extends to a fairly broad segment of the economy covering the railroads, military, public works, power, telecommunications, etc.

IES EXAMINATION PATTERN
Part I- The written examination will comprise two sections-Section I consisting only of objective types of questions and Section II of conventional papers. Both Sections will cover the entire syllabus of the relevant engineering disciplines viz. Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Electronics & Telecommunication Engineering. The standard and syllabi prescribed for these papers are given in Schedule to the Appendix. The details of the written examination i.e. subject, duration and maximum marks allotted to each subject are given in para 2 below.
Part II- Personality test carrying a maximum of 200 marks of such of the candidates who qualify on the basis of the written examination.
IES EXAM ELIGIBILITY
Educational Qualifications :
Degree in :
• Electrical Engineering
• Electronics & Communications Engineering
• Civil Engineering
• Mechanical Engineering
or equivalent degree from recognized universities.
• M.Sc. degree or equivalent with Wireless Communication, Electronics, Radio Physics or Radio Engineering as a special subject is also acceptable for certain posts.
• Students of final year Engineering or equivalent degree are also eligible.
Age Limits :
Not less than 21 years and not more than 30 years as on August 1st on year of conduct of examination ( upper age limit relaxable for SCs/STs,OBCs and certain others )
